The sleazy pool hall in cyberspace

I've been hanging around on Yahoo Games quite a bit lately. It all started with Katie (I miss you Kat!) introducing me to Literati. And then more recently, my friend Tiff got me hooked on Word Racer. But the last couple of days it has all been about Pool.

I still love Word Racer, of course, and I would not be opposed to a game of Literati, if anyone were to ask, but this Pool game is really, really entertaining. And no one complains that I am "way too good," like my friends do at Word Racer. Tiff won't even play that with me anymore, which is sad, but I'm not about to purposely hold back.

The only thing about this Pool game is that there is a lot of time to chat while you play. I find that really fun if I am playing against a friend. With strangers, however, I find it sort of weird and awkward.

Maybe it's just because I have never really been able to get into the whole chatroom scene, but I find all that introductory age/sex/location is so boring. I don't care about any of that stuff. Am I supposed to be happier to play internet pool with you if I know you are a 34 year old male from Texas? Does it give me an edge?

I don't mind so much if they just want idle small talk while we play, but it seems like most of the time they are using it as a set up to see if I'll cyber with them. It isn't everyone-- I had a strange, but interesting chat about Mother Teresa with a young man from India yesterday-- but I'd say 4 out of 5 guys there are pervs.

Not once, not twice, but three times today strangers I was playing with asked to see a picture of me. They did not seem impressed when I asked them why they needed a picture in order to play pool with me. Nor did they seem pleased that I didn't really want pictures of them. One especially persistant fellow sent me a very interesting photo of him jacking off in front of a former girlfriend. Or so he said. He didn't have an answer ready when I asked him who took the picture. He probably just lifted the picture from some skanky porn site. Gross.

I would really like to find are more people who actually want to play pool, and not just use it as a pretense to try and pick me up for some cyber sex. That way I could enjoy a game without having to fend off horny strangers. Is that really so much to ask? Anybody want to play pool with me?

Until then, I guess I'm back to Word Racer. The gameplay is much more my style-- very competitive and no time for chatting.
