2001-11-15 - 9:41 p.m.� Work has been an uncomfortable place these days. It seems that every department but mine is really, really fucked up at the moment. My department is more or less holding steady, but we are pretty stressed by what's going on around us. We all get along, but we can't help but hear what's going on in the rest of the office. Cubicles aren't soundproof. There are people quitting, people threatening to quit, talks of imminent layoffs, restructuring, a department manager on indefinite stress leave, in-fighting like mad, and rumblings of a very large debt accrued by the big bossman. All this does not bode well for me and my soon to be ending contract. I'm sure it will be renewed; my job is one of the more crucial ones, someone has to do it, and there is no one else around the office who is in line for the job. But I doubt they'll make me permanent yet, not when so many people are probably going to be laid off. I hate cubicleland sometimes. And I so don't need to be stressed at work right now, when I am stressed at home with the whole "adventure in moving" thing. At least we'll be all in the new place on Saturday. After the movers depart, and I find the important stuff, like the tv and dvd remotes, I plan to drink beer until I fall asleep. As long as I remember to wake up for work, it will all be okay.
