Whining, Politics, Christmas in early November, and other ramblings

I really wish it was the weekend now. I wish that this was Friday night. Even Thursday night would be preferable-- ER would be coming on soon, and tomorrow would be Friday. I can't believe there are two days left in this stupid week.

Okay, I'm done with the requisite whining... for now.

Work wasn't even bad today. It was just a really long day. We had a party at lunch. It was sort of a pot luck thing. I brought Timbits. I felt so cheap and lame, but then I saw that one of my coworkers had just brought a box of Ritz crackers and then I didn't feel so bad.

Sarah and I were discussing politics. I feel like such a grown-up. :) Of course, right now politics are interesting and somewhat entertaining. I have some feelings about what I hope the outcome of the American election will be, but honestly, I don't care too much. It's not my country, not my politicians, and the guy I would had voted for if I was American has lost anyway.

I'm voting NDP in my upcoming federal election, and I feel good about my decision. Yay for me. For once I am voting for the party I believe in. I've always voted for the most tolerable candidate (usually a Liberal) who had the best chance of beating out whatever candidate I didn't like. No more! This election I'm throwing my vote to the wind and supporting the NDP instead of voting to keep the evil out of office. And Stockwell Day is a mighty force of evil... but no matter. I'm sick of supporting Liberals anyway. What have they ever done for me? Not a damn thing, I tells ya.

I can't believe there are Christmas commericials on TV already! We just barely got through with Halloween but advertisers are trying to tell us it's Christmas.

It's sort of infectuous though; all the commercials with they're jingly little Christmas tunes inspired me to break out my own Christmas music. I have an odd collection of Christmas music. I'm not a big fan of traditional Christmas music, unless it's really traditional like Handel's Messiah. And I like some of the more traditional hymns, if they are arranged for orchestra or concert choir. Other than that, it's all way too syrupy for my liking.

My favorite Christmas album is called "Soul Christmas." It's from the mid 60's and it consists of great R&B songs. The songs are really more "Christmas themed" than actual "Christmas songs." It's a funky album and it makes me happy when I listen to it. I think everyone should go to Napster (or wherever you download mp3s) and find Clarence Carter's "Back Door Santa" and Booker T and the MGs' "Jingle Bells."

While I'm imposing my music tastes onto my readers I'd like to also recommend "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" as sung by Sarah McLachlan and Barenaked Ladies. Unlikely combination, but great song.

The Christmas commercials have also inspired my greed. I've already made my Christmas list. I want a Starfrit garlic press, the Scream DVD collection and this. I think a singing, Cha-cha-chaing Bear would make me happy whenever I'm in a bad mood. Like today.

Marla has a new layout! Yay for Marla! I've been meaning to make a few changes to mine. Nothing much, some font changes maybe, and some updating to my "Diaries I Read" list.

Okay, well seeing as this entry is long and rambly enough as it is, I think I'll stop for today.

yesterday tomorrow
