My most pointless entry of all time?

Sometimes I think in pop culture references. What I mean is that somedays, today for example, my train of thought seems to lead to quotations and references from my various pop culture obsessions-- The Simpsons, X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer most notably, with some music and old cartoon references thrown in for variety.

I wonder if that made sense to people who don't know me really well. Here is an example from today:

Someone at work was handing out free recipe booklets from the Ontario Egg Producers. I had trouble stifling a giggle, because right away all I could think of was Homer Simpson scolding Lenny and Carl-- "So one of those egg council creeps got to you too" and then the little guy in the egg suit running down the hall.

That's just the most notable one from today. There were others.

(And to mercuriehg, I smiled everytime I wrote the date on anything today because, like you, I know that today is an x-files day.)

It's funny how deeply ingrained useless knowledge and throw away one-liners can become, at least for me. Well, I know I'm not the only one. My brother and I have been conversing in cartoon quotes for years. The Simpsons seems to be the most insidious. We've adapted several lines, phrases and words into our everyday vocabulary (but then, that isn't all that unusual-- I know all sorts of people who use The Simpsons' originated word "cromulent" as if it was in fact, a perfectly cromulent word). My brother, Sarah, Craig and I can launch into a discussion with content spawned almost entirely from cartoons, and we all know exactly what is being discussed. It's good to have friends with similar obsessions. It's good to be around people who can, and do, all spontaneously recite The Tick's final words of wisdom from "That Moustache Feeling" just because someone said "That's cool."

Is this my most pointless entry of all time? It just might be. But I have nothing else worth writing about today. Work was boring and I'm still kind of sick.
