My weekend: videos, or the lack there of

Another weekend of sitting home on my ass. That's become the way I spend my weekends now. It's by my own choice. I've wanted to be lazy and house-bound. I will probably continue to spend my weekends this way until the 27th, when I go down to Toronto to visit Sarah and Craig and see the Sarah Slean concert at Trinity St. Paul.

So, just exactly how did I spend my housebound weekend? I'm sure everyone is dying to know. I went through the boxes in the store room. I did not find any more videos, sadly. See, last weekend I started a new project-- basically, I created a database in Access for all the cartoons I have in my collection. Obsessive? Yes. Geeky? Oh my, yes. But hey, that's me. And it gave me a chance to brush up on my Access skills, in case I need to use those skills to land myself a shiny new job... which I'm sure I'll eventually find... someday...

Anyway, this project sent me going through all the videos I have, and in doing so, I found some gaps in my collection. I'm missing some vidoes that I can't believe I would have left behind when I packed up and moved in the great forclosure of '99. I know I consciously decided to leave behind any videos (and anything else) that I deemed as belonging to my father, in case he faced reality in time to pack up his possessions (I gave him the benefit of the doubt, which alas, was a mistake on my part). But I'm missing some things that where definitely mine, leading me to believe that I must have another box of videos somewhere.

I went through all the boxes I could find. No videos. Now I'm wondering if there is another one of my boxes somewhere in my grandmother's garage. If there is, it's as good as gone, at least for now. My grandmother is currently mad at my mother, for "trying to make her think she is losing her mind." And she hates me, for all the normal (insane) reasons that she's always hated me for on and off. So there is no way that she'll let me into her garage to look for my stuff.

I did find some over cool stuff of mine though. Some pictures I had forgotten about, and some more useless, but cool, crap like my collection of stuffed Simpsons dolls from Burger King, and my tutu clad Fantasia hippo from Disney World. And a Speedy Gonzales pez dispenser.

I also found a bag of little Red Rose tea figurines. They're little knicknacks that came free in boxes of tea back in the 70s. My mother used to give them to me when I was little, and apparantly, I kept them. With only a couple of exceptions, they are in really good shape too. I checked around on Ebay and various collectible websites and discovered that I can probably sell them off and make at least $75.00 American, which is like what? About $200 Canadian?. Okay, not quite, but still, yay for me.

The rest of my weekend was spent watching movies. Everytime I go into my neighbourhood video store, I am amazed by the number of movies that I want to see that they don't have. Last time I went, I tried rent Welcome to the Dollhouse, which they don't have. Okay, so it wasn't a huge movie, but still, it's not like it's a totally obscure foreign film, or something. This time, all I wanted was Goodfellas. My brother's never seen it, so we decided we'd rent it. They did not have it. The guy at the counter claims that they do have it, or at least they did have it, but it's lost now. He thinks. He said he'd call me if it turns up.

What I did end up with was Clerks, Kids in the Hall's Brain Candy, and Ghost World. I enjoyed them all to varying degrees, with Ghost World coming up on top.

So that was my weekend. And now it is nearly over, and seeing as how I did not win the lottery again this weekend, I guess it's back to work tomorrow morning.
