2001-04-17 - 5:22 p.m. Long weekends are wonderful and calming. Until they end, anyway. My job was unbelievably busy today. The phones wouldn't stop ringing, and a good number of the calls were long and involved. I set up 6 new clients on the already overloaded Meals on Wheels program. I had 4 clients complain to me about their Meals on Wheels deliveries. I had 3 volunteers complain to me about their volunteering duties. Then, at 4:00 I learned that 6 out of the 10 people who are supposed to deliver tomorrow's meals, can't do it. This basically let me know that tomorrow is going to be just as hectic as today was. And, best of all, I had one volunteer quit today. She said she'd been thinking about it over the long weekend, and she decided she didn't want to volunteer anymore. It just wasn't "her thing." Spiffy. And a Happy Easter to you too. It wasn't enough that I had to deal with all this crap today either. No, all my various supervisors kept dumping tasks on me today that absolutely, positively had to be done today. Finally I just had to say to them all, hey, I'm only one person, I can do this, this, and this, but I think that the rest could probably wait until tomorrow. Everyone agreed, although not altogether cheerfully. It was another instance of me not minding being a team player, but finding that what was really being asked was for me to be a team of one. Today was one of those days that makes me entertain thoughts of finding a new job now. Unfortunately there is one decent job for me on the job bank! Not a freaking one! At least not a good one for me, seeing as I am neither a Truck Driver or a Personal Support Worker or a Welder.
