2002-03-26 - 8:45 p.m. I woke up today in a lovely mood. Simon the cat let me sleep all night, and was even curled up against my knees when I woke up. I didn't mind getting up when my alarm went off, I didn't even mind having to put on my boots and leave the comfort of my home. Then I got to work. Immediately, people started asking me to do things for them. And then I looked at my own mound of work, and realized that I was going to have a hell of a time getting through my own work, much less anyone else's work. People at work aren't used to hearing me say "no, I don't have time to help you with that today." They don't particularly like to hear that. Too damned bad. It's a short week, it's approaching month end report time (and year end too, but I'm ignoring that fact for as long as possible), half of my volunteers are away for at least a few days this week which makes scheduling a nightmare, and on top of it all, the weather sucked today, and that always adds to my workload. Can we say "disgruntled"? I knew you could. There were only two things that got me through today with any shreds of my sanity-- brief breaks of e-mailing with Marla, and having way too much fun at lunch discussing prostitution as a post-layoff career move. Our organization's current slogan translated far too well into a slogan about prostitution. Don't ask. Well, the good news is that this is a short week, and I get a 4 day weekend. The bad news is that I still need to get through 2 more days in that place before I get my weekend.
