2005-07-09 - 11:16 a.m. Summer is music festival time in my world. This weekend I'm at the Mariposa Folk Festival in Orillia Ontario. This is the third year I've been to the festival. The first year, with Sarah, mainly to see Moxy Fruvous, the second year with my mom, mainly to see Gord Downie. This year, I'm with my mom and Julie. Last night the main stage got rained out, and was declared unsafe for performance, so they moved the acts to the beer tent. This worked out just fine for us. We got there early enough that we had a good spot inside the tent, with a great sight line to the performers. Even close enough that I got some halfway decent pictures, despite my camera's tiny zoom. All 4 of the acts were great-- The Paperboys, Serena Ryder, Arroogant Worms, and Sarah Harmer. I was really impressed with Serena Ryder. I've heard her once before, opening for Danny Michel, but I'd forgot just how powerful her voice is. I must pick up one of her cds when I go back there today. My favorite of the night was The Arrogant Worms. They sang their Celine Dion song, as I was so hoping they would, after the Live 8 incident. But their whole set was great. I essentially spent an hour just laughing. Their songs are great, but their stage banter is even better. They're going to be playing workshops all weekend, so I get to see them again too. Yay! I think today we are going to be shuffling back and forth between Arrogant Worms and Danny Michel. Because I loves me some Danny Michel. Not only are his songs great, he's pretty.
